With that in mind, we’re excited to be playing a tiny part in the building of a new secondary school in Msalabani Malawi, organised and funded through The Malawi Initiative.

The Malawi Initiative is based around an exchange between local Aylesbury school AGS and Malosa Secondary School in the Zomba area of Malawi, started in 2007.

It aims to help support development in a number of ways, with the main aim to help foster educational improvements by building new schools and providing some of the resources to go to those schools.

The third poorest country in the world, Malawi’s education budget is less than the UK spends on perfume in a month. No surprise that only 9% of students finish secondary school! School attendance in the UK is a legal requirement whereas in Malawi it’s a privilege!

The new school construction project is well underway as the photos show, and Aylesbury students are visiting the area in July to deliver resources and help with the project. We’ve made a donation to help progress the building work and we look forward to seeing updated photos.
