RT Machinery is an Official Bateson Service Agent – all trailers can be repaired and serviced or spare parts supplied.
Formed in 1934, at the very beginning of the trailer industry, Bateson has produced many thousands of trailers for all purposes and gives RT Machinery and our clients a full range of quality built and innovative trailers with a finish that’s second to none. The trailers benefit from a fully galvanised chassis and can be custom built with your postcode or fleet marking welded into it.
With over 100 standard models, all of which combine exceptional strength with low unladen weight and excellent towing characteristics, there is nonetheless the capability to modify designs and produce special trailers.
All trailers are manufactured to comply with the latest European regulations, have been inspected by the VCA and granted European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. A certificate of conformity is supplied free with every trailer to permit registration in all European countries (registration is not required in the UK).
There’s an awful lot more to Bateson than just another trailer.
Our Bateson products are manufactured in Britain.

LIVESTOCK
Bateson Livestock Trailers at RT Machinery.
Bateson Livestock Trailers have been in production for over 70 years during which time they have developed continuously to keep abreast of ever-changing legislation with regard to motor vehicles and the transport of animals.
We have taken care to keep the trailers as simple and light as possible without sacrificing strength in order to cope with the harsh environment in which they may operate.
All standard models have a hot-dipped galvanised chassis and are panelled with 2 mm toughened alloy sides and a heat reflecting, plastic-coated galvanised steel roof, two rows of recessed vent channels are fitted with punched holes, allowing permanent ventilation, minimising water ingress and eliminating the possibility of trapping animals. The floor is an 18 mm Phenol coated panel covered with aluminium tread-plate. All trailers up to 3500 kg are fitted with independent suspension axles and auto-reversing brakes. Full road lights, locking hitch and spare wheel are all standard.
Model 90 LT and 100 LT are designed for use with tractors and have leaf spring suspension and hydraulic brakes. A cross division gate is standard in these trailers and optional in the other models. The maximum permitted pen lengths are 12′ for cattle. 10′ for pigs and sheep and 8′ for calves.
A fold-down top front section to improve ventilation and reduce wind resistance are also available on models 30 LT to 60 LT.
Some models are available with increased headroom and can be fitted with a timber ramp, breast bars and a central division and rubber floor mats for the occasional transportation of horses. Simple lift out decks are available for models 30 LT to 48 LT. Fully folding aluminium sheep decks are available in the new Eurostock 326 and 336 models that also have aero dynamic fronts, an internal bulkhead and hinge down front vents as standard. Possibly the most distinctive and efficient livestock trailers available.
HORSEBOXES
Bateson Horsebox Trailers at RT Machinery.
Our design experience utilising the latest durable materials has enabled us to produce a stylish range of horse trailers, which combine low unladen weight, exceptional strength, good aerodynamics and stable towing characteristics.
The chassis and frames are all hot-dipped galvanised steel with a semi-monocoque construction allowing a low floor height and a lower centre of gravity than our competitors also providing increased ground clearance, less unladen weight and an extra 3” headroom within the same overall height.
All trailers have Avonride soft ride fully independent rubber suspension with automatic reversing brakes and a hydraulically damped hitch with a power-assisted handbrake, front telescopic jockey wheel, and a spare wheel.
The sides are panelled with specially manufactured glass fibre/plywood laminated panels with galvanised steel kicking panels and vacuum formed flexible padding panels.
The floor is manufactured with a 22cm wide 2mm galvanised steel section down both sides where maximum strength and rot resistance is required. The centre section is a rot proof plastic floor panel that is strong, solid and silent and offers total security. A full aluminium plank floor is available as an option. The stalls have two 18mm removable rubber floor mats that lift out to allow the floor to dry during washing and for periodic inspection. The front floor section and ramps are bonded with reinforced non-slip rubber matting.
The roof is heat-reflecting white plastic coated galvanised steel with a moulded glass fibre front section and a large vacuum-formed window incorporating a ventilator. Ventilation is also provided in each side and over the rear doors.
Divisions are galvanised steel with flexible padding panels and reinforced rubber kicking skirts. They are hinged on a central post on all front unload models. The front and rear bars are fully padded and adjustable for height and remain attached to the division, out of the way of the horses during loading and unloading.
All trailers have a high standard specification and are fully equipped with a unique coupling mirror, which allows the trailer hitch to be seen by the driver during coupling eliminating miss alignment, and damaged bumpers. Interior lamp, hitch lock, internal and external tying rings and spare wheel are all standard. A saddle rack and cover are fitted to Deauville models and a lockable tack cupboard in Ascot models.
American style rear doors with a pull out ramp are available on the front to unload models as an option. These are very common in Europe and becoming more popular in the UK, being easier to load and making the trailer more versatile.
Full-width front and rear bars are also available for use with the divisions removed. A mare and foal can be transported at the owner’s discretion but extra security should be provided for the groom’s door which is designed to open from inside for safety and convenience. Other options include a hinged head divider panel, an easy to fit wheel clamp and the graphics stripe available in yellow, red, green, black, blue or pink
A removable aluminium bulkhead gate and ramp side gates can also be offered to allow the transportation of sheep and other small livestock. Fully complying with the transportation of animals act and increasing the trailers versatility.

TRANSPORTERS
Bateson Transporter Trailers at RT Machinery.
The Bateson range of hydraulic tilt vehicle transporters has proved very popular and successful for many years. The trailer is fully welded from 2.5 mm steel sheet and hot rolled sections then hot-dipped galvanised in one piece providing an extremely strong trailer with a low unladen weight
All models have a full floor panelled with 18mm phenol ply which tilts back hydraulically to provide a low approach angle, enabling vehicles with front spoilers and low ground clearance to be loaded with ease.
The range comprises three models, the lightest 22-15 with a capacity of 1560kg, the most popular 27-16 that now has a carrying capacity of 2035kg is suitable for most cars and light commercial vehicles. The largest model 35-16 has a capacity of 2670kg and is suitable for larger 4x4s, plant and machinery.
All models are supplied with an adjustable front wheel chock, 12 securing points, a hand winch and a spare wheel.
HYDRAULIC TILT
Bateson Hydraulic Tilt Trailers at RT Machinery.
Bateson Hydraulic Tilt trailers have been designed to transport many types of vehicles and machinery. The low platform and shallow approach angle allow equipment with a minimum ground clearance or a long front overhang to be loaded easily. They are available in three types; the GT models which are single axle low loading general purpose trailers, suitable for all types of horticultural and construction equipment, the AT range which are twin axle, auto tilt platform trailers suitable for machines and vehicles weighing up to 2 tons and versatile PT range of tilting platform trailers which are available with twin or triple axles up to 3500kg gross weight.
The PT range are very low loading flat platform trailers with hydraulic tilt. The laser-cut chassis members incorporate the outside sections of the floor which increases the strength whilst reducing the platform height and unladen weight. This also allows tyre grips and load securing points to be cut into the deck inside the sides. If hinged sides are required three are fitted each side with lift out the centre and corner posts. A 75cm High ramp door is fitted on all three trailers to provide a constant approach angle. Detchable ramp blocks are available for very low vehicles and lose ramps are available for sideloading that store between the centre side posts. As a free option, we offer these trailers without the rear ramp and with 2 slide under ramps 1200mm long and 300mm wide. This allows a rear overhang and further reduces the approach angle. A 2-tonne hand winch or 12v electric winch and a front adjustable wheel chock are also available as options.
Non-tilting models are available that can be fitted with triple axles if required, they can then be plated to a gross weight of 3500kg.
On the GT and AT trailers the deck extends rearwards by lowering the tailboard which locks horizontally. This allows the body to balance over the pivot point (when not fitted with extra equipment). The body can then be tilted to allow the load to be driven or winched on and the body will return to the normal position. If the valve on the pump is closed, the body will remain raised in order to load several items, when the valve is opened the body will lower. When unloading the body is released and the tailboard lowered the machine can be driven on to the ramp and the body will tilt, hydraulically damped, and the load is driven off. The trailer can also be tilted by means of the manual hand pump if required.
We also manufacture special tilt trailers for scissor lifts and sweeping machines, 26TP and 35TP, 2600 kg and 3500 kg gross weights, these can be built with extra body length to accommodate larger machines if required. Also, look at our ever-popular Hydraulic Tilt Car Transporters trailers, these have proved to be ideal for many more applications than just car transport.
TIPPERS
Bateson Tipping Trailers at RT Machinery.
We manufacture a range of 4 Hydraulic tipping trailers the smallest 720H does not have brakes and can be seen in the un-braked trailer section. Model 202H has a gross weight of 2000kg and can be easily tipped manually avoiding the cost and complexity of electric tipping equipment.
Model 263H at 2600kg and 353H at 3500kg are both 3 metres long and are supplied with a 12v pump and battery box as standard. All models have 30cm steel sides as standard and can be fitted with mesh extension sides and rear gates as an option.
We do not manufacture a larger tipping trailer on safety grounds, they will hold more material than their weight capacity, could be top-heavy when tipped and be very back heavy, lifting the rear of the towing vehicle when tipped.
